چکیده

Welcome to the ICPP Workshop on Compile/Run Time Techniques for Parallel Computing (CRTPC-04) held in conjunction with the International Conference on Parallel Processing (ICPP-04) in Montreal, Canada, August 15–18, 2004. It is widely recognized that although the peak performance of parallel systems continues to advance steadily, the sustained realization of high efficiency on parallel systems continues to be a difficult challenge. Achieving high efficiency generally requires explicit attention to considerable detail and the use of message passing, which is very tedious for the development of complex applications. Hence, it is extremely important to develop compile-time and run-time techniques that can ease the burden of the programmers of parallel systems, and help achieve high efficiency. The workshop features ten papers, from researchers in Asia, Europe, and North America in broad areas of compile and run-time techniques. We thank the authors for their contributions to the workshop, and the referees for their constructive comments.

Parallel computing using MPI and OpenMP on self-configured platform, UMZHPC.

Parallel computing is a topic of interest for a broad scientific community since it facilitates many time-consuming algorithms in different application domains. In this paper, we introduce a novel platform for parallel computing by using MPI and OpenMP programming languages based on set of networked PCs. UMZHPC is a free Linux-based parallel computing infrastructure that has been developed to cr...

Optimal task scheduling at run time to exploit intra-tile parallelism

In this paper we address the issue of iteration space tiling to minimize the completion time of loops when executed on multicomputers. The previous work on tiling assumes atomic execution of tiles to minimize synchronization costs. In this work, we remove the restriction of atomicity of tiles so that internal parallelism within tiles is exploited by overlapping computation with communication on...

Compiling Programs for Nonshared Memory Machines

Nonshared-memory parallel computers promise scalable performance for scientific computing needs. Unfortunately, these machines are now diHicult to program because the message-passing languages available for them do not reflect the computational models used in designing algorithms. This introduces a semantic gap in the programming process which is difficult for the programmer to fill. The purpos...
